The Best Educational Toys for Ages 2 - 8

Each age group has their own type of educational toys. These toys are very important to help them grow and learn properly. Children need a learning environment that will help them to reach their full potential. At the ages of two to eight years old, it is imperative that these educational toys not only are for learning, but they must also be appropriate for the age of the child. It will not be helpful if the child does not understand the educational toys they are presented. Here is a list of some educational toys that are listed for each age from two to eight years old.

Toys By Age

It is best to start each child out with age appropriate educational toys and work them into each new age level when they are ready. You do not want to move them too fast or too slow as this may throw the child off and bore them. Introduce each new educational toy separately and then see how it goes. If the child likes their educational toys, then you can build from there. This is especially important for the younger children. We have compiled a list to use as a guide. This list will give you some idea of exactly what educational toys your child might be interested in playing with.

  1. Birth To 18 Months – During this time, baby will need toys that are appropriate for chewing as well as hand eye coordination. Soft blocks are great for this age. They are colorful and can be stacked and restacked for hours. Walking toys are so fun for your baby now that pulling them up and walking are being experimented with.
  2. 2 Year Olds – This is definitely an exciting time for your child. Independence is on the way with walking, talking, and potty training. Exercise toys are great for getting out that extra energy. You may also want to consider getting your child their first Tricycle. It is a wise choice to start your child off early with educational toys that encourage activity and movement preferably outdoors for fresh air and sun!
  3. 3 and 4 Year Olds – We grouped these ages together because they are really so close in development. Children of this age will want to start playing dressing up as they develop their sense of growing up. You will also want to provide toys that start the child off on the right foot for school with ABC and 123 learning toys.
  4. 5 and 6 Year Olds – These ages are grouped together because they are the crucial first years of school. It is very important for parents to encourage good learning habits in the child. School must be a positive thing for the child. Educational toys give the child insight and toys that enhance the learning from school are great for at home bonding.
  5. 7 and 8 Year Olds - These ages are certainly a time for your child’s individual personality to shine through. They are definitely becoming their own person in style and learning. Boys and girls are separating into their own gender groups with dollhouses for the girls and robotic learning toys for the boys.

Age Appropriate Toys

It is best when you are providing your child with toys that they be age appropriate educational toys. Why not combine learning and fun together. Most of the time, your child will not even realize your learning motive behind that certain favorite toy. You do not have to tell him about all the benefits of his educational toys. All they know is that they are having a great time!

From age’s two to eight, the toys will vary, but starting a child off right with educational toys is the best investment you can make for your child’s future

Make Room for a Table and Chairs

If your child’s playroom or bedroom has some extra space, a table and chairs set could be the perfect addition to the décor.  My Child Playhouses has many unique and fun sets that help make your child’s room a special place to be.

Before selecting a table and chairs set, you should take some time to determine the function of the set.  Will it be a place for your child to complete art projects, do homework, or host a tea party?  Knowing the intended use of the set will help you make the right choice when you are ready to pick one out.

If your budding artist is looking for a place to create masterpieces, the Kidkraft Star Table and 2 Chair Set is a perfect choice.  It is a sturdy wooden table that is the perfect size for children.  It also has two bins in red and blue underneath.  These bins are perfect for holding art supplies and unfinished projects.  Another similar choice is the Kidkraft Natural Table with Primary Benches.  While it only has one storage bin underneath, it is deep with plenty of storage space.  The table is wide and is also an excellent place for your child to play his favorite board games.  In addition, the benches and storage bin slide neatly under the table for compact storage.  If you need a larger table with seating for four, look at the GuideCraft Nordic Table & Chairs.  Because all of these sets feature natural wood and primary colors, they are good choices for families with both boys and girls.

For a place to do homework, you may want something simple with few distractions.  A classic table and chairs set is perfect for this.  Consider the Kidkraft Aspen 2-Chair Set.  It comes in a natural wood finish or in white.  The square table is a great place for homework, coloring, or crafting.  Another advantage to this table is that you can order extra chairs as needed, so you are not limited to just the two that come with the set.  You might also want to look at the Kidkraft Avalon Table and 2 Chair Set.  It is a slightly more expensive alternative but it is well worth the money.  This set may be better for many families.  It features an elegant table and also has a large drawer built in for storage of school supplies.  This makes it an excellent choice for older children who need a place for homework but are not quite big enough for a desk.

If you are in the market for a special place for your little hostess to hold her tea parties, the Tea Party Round Table and Stools is perfect.  The stools add a bit of fun, and the lovely design will add whimsy to any bedroom or playroom.  Another pretty option is the Kidkraft White Table with Pastel Benches.  With a deep bin, it doubles as a storage place for her dishes!  A final elegant choice that will make a beautiful entertainment spot is the Kidkraft Victoria Table and 2 Chair Set.  This is a white set with a tiny rosebud pattern.  It will make a great collectible to be passed down from generation to generation.

If you are shopping for a little boy, he probably cares nothing about frilly sets for tea parties!  Do not fret – there are plenty of options available for the little man in your life.  The Kidkraft Dinomax Table is a fun favorite!  It even comes with 20 play pieces for hours of prehistoric fun! Other options include the PlayBall Table and Chairs Set, the Construction Zone Table and Chairs Set, and the Levels of Discovery Firefighter Table and 2 Stool Set.

For outside fun, also check out the Kidkraft Octagon Table with striped umbrella and 4 Stoll Set.  Kids love eating outdoors and will feel just as special as the grownups at this trendy table.

These are in no means the only options.  There are many different table styles in just as many themes!  Check out My Child Playhouses for these and more options.
